Town of Solothurn

The erstwhile town of ambassadors is an insider's tip for strollers and gourmets likewise. Even today the visitor to the town will sense a touch of the former bourgeoisie and of those feudal times. The gorgeous baroque buildings are an impressive sight, as is the town's geographical position at the river Aare and at the foot of the local mountain Weissenstein.
The pretty small town has a lot to offer. She is a place of culture, hosting many conferences, offering a great many leisure activities, and inviting to stroll around and to enjoy the manifold local gastronomy.
All locals are familiar with Solothurn's holy number 11. Thus Solothurn has, for instance, eleven fountains, eleven churches, and eleven chapels. In 1481 Solothurn joined the Swiss Confederation as the eleventh canton.
