Franz-Dieter Weitz studied organ and harpsichord, first at the Musikhochschule in Karlsruhe, later at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Trossingen under professor Helga Kirwald.
In 1986/1987 he pursued further studies under Ton Koopman in Amsterdam. After obtaining the music teacher's diploma he completed his artistic instrumental education, as an organist
in 1986, and as a harpsichord player in 1988.
In 1990 Dieter Weitz obtained the concert exam for the harpsichord.
Mastercourses, amongst others under Bob van Asperen, Harald Vogel, and L. F. Tagliavini, rounded off Dieter Weitz' academic education.
Afterwards Dieter Weitz performed in numerous radio broadcasts.
Since 1989 Dieter Weitz has held a teaching assignment (harpsichord, rehearsal/coaching) at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Trossingen.
